Studies show that CSO readers are most likely to know that endpoint protection is the modern iteration of the antivirus tools of previous generations. Okay, I made that first part up, but the second part is, of course, true. Antivirus, more appropriately known as antimalware, has matured significantly since the days of dedicated antivirus servers, daily signature updates, and manually managed policies.Endpoint protection covers much more than antimalware. As attack methods and the technology behind them have become more diverse and sophisticated, so too must the security tools tasked with protecting what are often the most vulnerable devices on the…
In the summer of 2019, Timilehin Ajiboye became intrigued with the idea of building a travel app after conversations with a circle of friends. One friend reached out to Ajiboye asking if he knew of any platform where she could find new, aesthetically pleasing places to dine in, visit and take pictures. And then, during a trip to Miami, he and his friends actively sought out beautiful places to eat — and take photographs. No doubt: These needs are pretty vain. But Backdrop is not unlike other global social media platforms that allow users to take ephemeral photos, flex their lifestyle…
In his latest report to investors, the well-known and widely respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo writes that he now expects Apple to start mass production of the next redesigned MacBook Air in the late second or early third quarter of 2022 – in the middle of summer next year, in other words. The analyst does not have any new information about the laptop itself. But he has previously claimed that the next MacBook Air will have an entirely new chassis design that’s similar to the latest MacBook Pro. The ‘major redesign’ theory has also been supported by Bloomberg pundit Mark Gurman.…
We were impressed with the MacBook Air Apple introduced in March 2020, and then Apple blew that out of the water with the M1 MacBook Air in November 2020. With two MacBook Air launches in 2020 you’d be forgiven in thinking that there would be no big MacBook Air news on the horizon, but apparently there is a new look MacBook Air in the works and Apple is planing a colourful redesign to boot. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (who seems to have access to some pretty good sources) Apple is developing a “thinner and lighter version of the MacBook…
If you’re a big-picture sort of person, you need a laptop to match. You yearn for a notebook (the word “laptop” is a bit of a misnomer for these bulky thigh-crushers) that not only capably replaces a desktop PC, but also gives you an easy-on-the-eyes, panoramic view of your workspace or playing field. That means a 17-inch model, one with the largest popular screen size in the portable universe.Almost all 17-inch laptops feature displays that, technically, measure 17.3 inches on the diagonal (just as so-called 15-inch laptops usually measure 15.6 inches corner to corner). That’s enough for a magnified view of…
How do you define what makes for a “real” gaming laptop? We don’t consider any laptop a true gaming machine unless it comes with a dedicated graphics chip (aka, a “GPU”), as opposed to the integrated graphics built into the PC’s main processor. For us—and for sellers of laptops—that’s the bright line that divides a gamer from a pretender.Still, depending on the kind of games you play and how fussy you are, sometimes a laptop doesn’t have to pretend. On some level, almost any recent notebook PC can work as a gaming laptop. Current general-use laptops with Intel’s 9th, 10th, or (more recently)…
If you’re shopping for a laptop, you have torrent of options to choose among, be it a thin mobile companion or a hefty, rugged notebook, with a vast range of options in between. Where even to start? Sometimes the easiest thing to do is to narrow down your options based on what you know. And sometimes that’s a brand you’ve long used and trusted. If you’re familiar with Dell, you probably have some opinion regarding how reliable the company’s products are, how its customer service works, and the general quality of the user experience that those products and services deliver. If you’re brand-loyal,…
