The iDprt SP420 (officially $192.99, but often discounted) is aimed at small and home businesses that need an affordable way to print 4-by-6 shipping labels. Similar in many ways to the FreeX WiFi Thermal Printer I recently reviewed, it offers fast performance and can use a wide range of labels in various sizes from other manufacturers. Unfortunately, it has some shortcomings that make it impossible to recommend without reservation. It’s most likely to be useful to you if you know how to format files for printing, or are willing to learn.Room for Big Label RollsThe SP420 is basically a black…
Facebook’s stock took a dive Monday as the site suffered one of its worst outages of the past decade with services across its entire suite of products going offline while the tech company struggled to even bring its own internal services back online. The stock ended the day down nearly 5%, with Facebook shedding tens of billions in market cap value as the company sorted through the pieces attempting to diagnose what triggered the outage, and investors looked to calculate what lasting damage to the site could look like. Facebook stock has been on a tear in 2021, reaching a…
TL;DR Microsoft just made the official Windows 11 downloads available. That’s a day earlier than expected. The originally announced launch date was October 5, 2021. If you have newer hardware, you might see the update available very soon. Older hardware might take a while. Months ago, Microsoft officially revealed it would launch the latest version of Windows on October 5, 2021. Two weeks ago, it launched a bunch of new hardware that supports the new Windows, all of which is slated to release on October 5, too.If you have a newer Windows 10 PC, you might be able to check…
Google today rolled out the stable version of Android 12. Unfortunately, that update is not yet available to be installed on any phones yet, not even the Pixel line which usually gets the first crack at Android updates. Instead, tipsters like Max Weinbach question whether Android 12 will be disseminated worldwide at the same time that Google unveils or releases the Pixel 6 line.Google did update the open-source code for Android today, and that is usually accompanied by a release of the latest Android build to Pixel handsets, but not this time. So during this 8-month long incubation process, Pixel…
Drastic redesigns of Windows have proven disastrous for Microsoft in the past, with Windows 8 the worst case in point. But after testing Windows 11 for myself, I’ve found that, though the interface looks quite different, it doesn’t take long to figure out how things work. At its introduction event, Microsoft Chief Product Officer Panos Panay expressed a desire not to alienate longtime Windows aficionados, and that’s a good thing (though almost impossible given the way a lot of people react to change). There’s plenty of innovation in Windows 11 despite this goal to make it feel familiar. The new…
Lenovo may have been working on an Android-based handheld gaming device, according to a leak from the company’s own website. If you dive into the computer code of Lenovo’s Mobile World Congress hub, you’ll find text and links that refer to a “Lenovo Legion Play,” but the company itself never debuted such a device during the trade show. Someone on the GBAtemp video gaming forum discovered the device while Googling the term “Lenovo Handheld.” The search results produced one of the pictures for the Lenovo Legion Play embedded in the company’s MWC website, which includes a description of the mysterious product.Interestingly, the…
Either of two things has happened at Facebook. It has either been the target of a massive hack, or someone somewhere has screwed up in a major fashion. We are getting reports that the depth of the outage has various moving parts and is not simply a basic DNS error. This is something that will take hours at a bare minimum to fix and could even take days. Facebook outage: massive hack or the biggest human error in social network history? When Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram all went down, the groundswell of people rushing to other platforms to continue their social posting and messaging — likely to poke fun at Facebook, frankly — was intense. So much so, it seems, that Twitter is also experiencing problems. Everyone’s favorite doomsday watchlist Downdetector shows many reports of issues with Twitter, and the staff here at Digital Trends are seeing intermittent problems loading tweets — both on the timeline and from individual links. So far the issue doesn’t seem universal, and content usually loads after a handful of page refreshes, so we can hope this…
Intel is so confident in its upcoming Alder Lake and Sapphire Rapids CPUs that its CEO just said AMD’s time in the limelight will soon be “over.” “And yeah, AMD has done a solid job over the last couple of years. We won’t dismiss them of the good work that they’ve done, but that’s over with Alder Lake and Sapphire Rapids,” Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said in an interview with Computer Reseller News’ Dylan Martin. Gelsinger spoke at length with Martin and talked about the three “A companies” that always come up when Intel is mentioned: AMD, Apple and Arm.…
